Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 8, 2026

The short version: Paperlight collects no personal data. Your scans never leave your device. There is no account, no analytics, and no third-party tracking of any kind.

What we collect

Nothing. Paperlight does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on any server. The app has no backend, no database, and no telemetry.

Camera access

Paperlight requests access to your camera solely to scan documents. Images captured by the camera are processed entirely on your device using Apple's VisionKit framework. Scanned images are converted to a PDF and saved to the location you choose in the Files app. No image data is ever transmitted anywhere.

Files access

Paperlight asks you to choose a save location using the standard iOS document picker. It writes the PDF to the location you select. It does not browse, index, or read any other files on your device.

Scan history

Paperlight keeps a local list of scan metadata — filename, date, page count, and a security-scoped bookmark so it can deeplink back to the file in the Files app. This metadata is stored only on your device. No thumbnails or page images are retained after you save.

Payments

Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Paperlight never sees your payment information. For questions about billing, contact Apple Support or visit reportaproblem.apple.com.

iCloud Key-Value Store

Paperlight uses iCloud Key-Value Store (NSUbiquitousKeyValueStore) to sync the free-scan counter across your devices under the same Apple ID. This counter is a single number and contains no personal information. It is only used to prevent losing your free scans if you delete and reinstall the app or upgrade to a new device.

Analytics and advertising

Paperlight contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, and no crash-reporting services that collect user data. The app's privacy manifest (PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy) declares no data collection to Apple.

Children's privacy

Paperlight does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13, or from anyone. The app's data practices are identical for all users.

Changes to this policy

If the privacy policy ever changes in a meaningful way, the updated policy will be posted at this URL with a new effective date. Because we collect no data, any change would only make this policy shorter.
